Raising the standard for a growing problem
The National Association of Methamphetamine Contamination exists to define and enforce standards and protocols for the testing and decontamination of the rising number of properties affected by methamphetamine throughout Australia.
Education, resources and advocacy
We provide education, resources and advocacy to everyone involved in, interested in or affected by methamphetamine testing, decontamination and analysis. That includes the professionals who do the work and the families, owners and agencies who rely on it.
The association reviews, promotes and lobbies for legislation and standards that provide safe and healthy living environments for the community. We also act as a trusted reference point for the public and the media when contamination is in the news.
For our members, we provide a base for information sharing and validation, so they can keep improving their practice and build a profession the public can trust.
Five areas of work
Define standards
We define and refine best practice for testing and decontamination so results are consistent, reliable and safe across the industry.
Enforce standards
We assess applicants, audit members' reports and Remediation Action Plans, and act on complaints from the public.
Educate
We run workshops and continuing education for members and share plain English guidance with the public.
Research
Our research program, led by Dr Jackie Wright, investigates how contamination behaves and how it affects health.
Advocate
We work with government and regulators on issues affecting testing, decontamination and analysis, and build relationships with allied associations.
Promote ethics
We promote ethical practice and a positive industry image through professional development and a clear code of conduct.
A board drawn from every part of the industry
The NAMC board includes a representative from each relevant sector. This balance means no single type of business can set the rules for everyone else, and decisions reflect how the work is actually done.
Meth testing
Represents companies that assess properties and carry out clearance testing.
Meth decontamination
Represents companies that remediate contaminated properties and manage waste.
Training and hygienist services
Represents trainers and occupational hygienists who set competency expectations.
Laboratory analysis
Represents NATA accredited laboratories that analyse samples.
Research
Represents researchers who build the evidence behind the guidelines.
What we stand for
- Public safety first. Every standard we set is judged by whether it protects the people who live in these properties.
- Evidence over opinion. We base our positions on published guidelines and research, and update them as the evidence changes.
- Independence. We encourage separation between testing and decontamination to remove conflicts of interest.
- Transparency. Our standards, directory and complaints process are public.
